Mark Richardson was admitted to practice in 1991 and signed the Bar Roll in 2006.

Completing articles at Blake Dawson Waldron, he became a Senior Associate (1994-2001) and Special Counsel at the Firm from 2001 to 2006. His principal area of practice was advisory and conducting litigation in health law matters.

Mark has acted on behalf of health professionals, medical defence organisations and health organisations in the Coroners, County and Supreme Courts and before disciplinary tribunals and boards. He has advised both individuals and organisations on health related privacy issues and FOI issues.

In addition, Mark has been involved in the conduct of major commercial litigation involving alleged professional negligence of company advisers, such as auditors. He has acted on behalf of the Commonwealth and corporations with respect to a significant number of asbestos claims.

He was a non-executive director of the Australian Stem Cell Centre (2002-2007) and was on the Board’s audit, remuneration and ethics sub-committees. He has advised health organisations on ethical and governance issues relating to medical research and from 2002-2005 was a founding member of the Victorian Biotechnology Ethics Advisory Committee, a committee reporting to the Minister for Health.

He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Mark has regularly presented papers on topics as varied as medical law, loss of chance, tort reform, expert evidence, advance directives in the mental health context, conflicts of interest in science and stem cell regulation.
