Darren Bruno practises across public, industrial and commercial law for a range of government and private clients.

 

His public law practice is broad and includes judicial review proceedings, merits review proceedings, disciplinary proceedings, regulatory prosecutions, proceedings involving supervision orders and anti-discrimination matters.

 

Darren appears before the federal and state courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Fair Work Commission and boards of injury. He has had experience with Royal Commissions, having appeared in the Family Violence Royal Commission as part of the counsel team for the state of Victoria.

 

Aside from appearance work, Darren is instructed to provide advice on statutory interpretation, litigation prospects and evidence, as well as policy development. He also drafts pleadings and allegations (in regulatory matters).

 

He has provided training to government on administrative law and the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities and has taught advocacy at Leo Cussen Centre for Law.

 

Before coming to the Bar, Darren worked as a solicitor for 10 years in Melbourne, London and Adelaide across a broad range of administrative and private law matters, acting predominantly for government.

 

He was an associate to the Honourable Justice Mullighan of the Supreme Court of South Australia.

 

Darren holds a Master of Public and International Law from the University of Melbourne and holds degrees in Law and Arts from the University of Adelaide.
