Stewart regularly appears in criminal trials in the County and Supreme Courts, and also in conviction and sentence appeals in the Court of Appeal. He is experienced in all aspects of the criminal trial process.

Stewart has extensive experience representing persons charged with offences against the Commonwealth Criminal Code, including terrorism and the importation of drugs and other substances. He also appears in murder trials, and has a particular interest in trials involving medical and scientific evidence.

Stewart also accepts briefs to appear in Coronial inquests, commissions of inquiry, and compulsory hearings at coercive agencies.

Stewart is a holder of the Victorian Bar's Indictable Crime Certificate. He is on the VLA Preferred Barrister List, and is among the senior barristers in the VLA Trial Counsel Development Program. He is a member of Brian Bourke Chambers.
