Profile
Erik Dober is an advocate with a broad practice across public, regulatory and commercial law. He is regularly briefed for both advice and appearance work.
Erik has extensive experience in regulatory, review and disciplinary matters including workplace health and safety, financial and consumer services, professional discipline, transport, and environmental protection. He has advised and appeared for WorkSafe Victoria, ASIC, the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission, the Building and Plumbing Commission, the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, Liquor Control Victoria, Victoria Police, Agriculture Victoria and the Victorian Fisheries Authority, as well as regulated entities.
He has advised, drafted and appeared in commercial law matters concerning general contract, insurance, commercial leasing, water, and building and construction.
Erik appears also in criminal proceedings, with particular experience in white‑collar and Commonwealth offences, homicide and drug matters. He is frequently briefed to prepare written cases and appear in the Court of Appeal.
Outside practice, Erik volunteers as a newsreader with Vision Australia Radio. He is Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Bendigo, and serves on the boards of Bencourt Care (chair since 2025) and New Horizons Welfare Services. He is a Lecturer with the Deakin Law School in evidence and criminal law. Between 2022 and 2024, Erik was a member (and co-chair in 2024) of the Bar's Student Engagement Committee.
Erik read with Patrick J Doyle S.C. and his senior mentor was his Honour Judge Andrew Palmer S.C..
He is a reporter with the Victorian Reports and, between 2024 and 2026, served as a member of the Appeal Costs Board.
