PROFILE

Erik Dober is an experienced advocate available for briefs in regulatory proceedings, disciplinary matters, state and federal criminal law, administrative proceedings, and commercial litigation. He is regularly briefed for both advice and advocacy.

Erik appears in the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, County Court, Magistrates’ Court and Children’s Court for a broad range of regulatory and criminal proceedings, including Commonwealth offences, homicide, frauds and drug matters. He is experienced in regulatory matters including workplace health and safety, consumer services, discipline, transport and environment protection. Erik is regularly briefed to draft written cases and appear in the Court of Appeal.

For his administrative and regulatory practice, Erik has advised and appeared for WorkSafe Victoria, Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission, Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, Victoria Police, Agriculture Victoria, and Victorian Fisheries Authority, as well as regulated entities.

Erik has advised and drafted in commercial law matters concerning general contract, insurance, water and building and construction. He has appeared led in the Supreme Court and in domestic arbitration, and unled in the County Court, Magistrates’ Court and VCAT in commercial litigation.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Erik was a Senior Solicitor at the Office of Public Prosecutions, Victoria. He has worked in the Policy and Specialised Legal Division within the OPP where he provided specialist advice on complex legal problems and policy issues, including matters related to administrative law, coronial referrals, international extraditions and serious offender supervision orders.

Outside legal practice, Erik volunteers as a newsreader with Vision Australia Radio. He also regularly judges and coaches university mooting teams. He is a sessional academic with the Deakin Law School in evidence and criminal law. Since 2022, Erik has been a member of the Bar's Student Engagement Committee. He is co-chair of that committee in 2024. Erik is a reported with the Victorian Reports.

Erik read with Patrick J Doyle S.C. His senior mentor was his Honour Judge Andrew Palmer.
