Barrister Information

Profile

Daniel Cash is a trial advocate specialising in family law, criminal law and intervention order proceedings.

Family Law

Since being admitted to practice in 2005, Daniel has been representing clients in Courts exercising jurisdiction under the Family Law Act (1975) in relation to both parenting and property proceedings. He provides specialist advice and representation to clients in private mediations, interim defended hearings and trials.

Criminal Law

In the criminal law jurisdiction Daniel appears regularly in privately funded trials, appeals, pleas, committal hearings and summary contested hearings. He has appeared in the High Court of Australia and in the Victorian Supreme Court of Appeal in appeals against sentence.

Intervention Orders:

Daniel has particular expertise in representing privately funded clients applying for and defending intervention order proceedings pursuant to the Family Violence Protection Act (Vic) and the Personal Safety Intervention Orders Act (Vic). His involvement in family law matters often commences with dealing with intervention order proceedings. As such, Daniel has a firm grasp of the interplay between intervention orders, family law proceedings and criminal liability.

Daniel is a passionate environmentalist and is president of Lawyers for Forests Inc. In that capacity he provides pro-bono legal advice and representation to environmental organisations and activists.

Prior to signing the bar roll in 2008, Daniel gained substantial experience as a solicitor/advocate in the criminal law jurisdiction as a solicitor advocate at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (V.A.L.S) in Victoria and at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (N.A.A.J.A) in the Northern Territory. As such, he has particular expertise in representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. Daniel has also worked in general law firms and has a broad understanding of diverse areas of law.
