Iman Osman

Iman has a diverse practice encompassing public, administrative, regulatory, and criminal law, with a particular focus on statutory interpretation and government regulation. She regularly represents both private and government clients in a variety of matters, merits and judicial review, and disciplinary proceedings.

Regulatory and Criminal Law
Iman has experience appearing in regulatory, quasi-criminal, and criminal matters, representing both prosecuting agencies and private clients in relation to contraventions of:

• Local Council laws
• Work, Health and Safety laws
• General criminal laws

Administrative and Public Law
Iman advises and welcomes briefs in a variety of administrative and public law matters, including:

• Regulatory and disciplinary reviews and proceedings
• Child protection regulation, including appearances before the Suitability Panel
• Disability, discrimination, and mental impairment matters, including National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) review proceedings

Previous Experience
Before joining the Bar, Iman served as a Legal Adviser at Comcare, providing legal advice on complex investigations and prosecutions under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth). She also worked as a solicitor at the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, where she regularly appeared in the Children’s Court, County Court, Family Court, and VCAT.

Iman commenced her legal career as a clerk in the Magistrates’ and Children’s Courts, gaining valuable insights into the judicial process.

Since 2021, Iman has been a sessional academic at Deakin University, teaching Evidence Law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and was awarded the Victoria University Medal of Excellence for graduating at the top of her class.
