Barrister Information
Profile
Immediately before signing the Bar Roll, Jamie Singh worked for 10 years in the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and before that worked for the Australian Taxation Office (3 years) and the State Taxation Office (2 years).
Jamie is thoroughly familiar with all aspects of Commonwealth crime (and crime in general) and has experience in the related areas of confiscation legislation. While at the DPP Jamie prosecuted or instructed in criminal matters in all jurisdictions, ranging from Magistrates' Court committals and summary hearings (both pleas and contests) to County Court trials and appeals to the Court of Criminal Appeal. The more serious matters involved revenue fraud, drug fraud, counterfeiting and Social Security fraud.
Since coming to the Bar, Jamie has appeared to both prosecute and defend in all jurisdictions, being the Magistrates Court, the County Court and the Court of Appeal. He has a particular interest in commercial or corporate fraud as he has tutored in company law at Monash University for about ten years.
Jamie has undertaken cultural awareness training provided by Kellawan Indigenous Consultants for persons who are members of Aboriginal communities. Additionally, Jamie has been selected as a member of the Victoria Legal Aid Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister.
