Profile

Jim Bisas was admitted to practice in 1990 and signed the Bar Roll in November 2006.

He has extensive experience in criminal litigation with an emphasis on County Court trial work. Jim was an associate to Judge Steven Strauss of the Family Court of Australia.

Jim worked as a Senior Prosecutor for the Melbourne office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions for 15 years. The matters that he handled with the DPP include drug importations, taxation frauds, social security, Criminal Code (Cwlth) offences and money laundering.

Whilst at the DPP, he instructed in a number of high profile and complex matters including major drug importations and Commonwealth white collar crime.

Jim was also employed in the Proceeds of Crime Division at the DPP as a Principal Legal Officer. He was responsible for the confiscation and forfeiture of assets which had been acquired by illegal means, by offenders.

In 2004 he joined the practice of Paul Vale Criminal Law and gained invaluable experience in criminal defence work and legal aid work.

In 2005 he became an Associate with the city criminal law practice of Michael J Gleeson and Associates. He practised criminal law extensively in private practice as a solicitor advocate and appeared in bail applications, pleas, contested committal proceedings, County Court appeals, contest mentions, committal mentions, Intervention order matters, Children’s Court matters and summary contested hearings.

Jim is currently a lecturer in the Law School at Deakin University, Burwood Campus in the post graduate subject of Electronic Crime and computer-related fraud.
