Julian accepts briefs in all areas of public law, particularly criminal, administrative and constitutional law, as well as torts and class actions against public authorities. He is a member of the VLA Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister List.

Outside of the Bar, Julian is an Honorary Fellow at the Melbourne Law School and an author of a number of legal articles and books (full list behind 'publications' tab). Julian's books include Criminal Laws Northern Territory (Federation Press, 3rd ed, 2021, with S Gray, J Blokland and B Grimes), Federal Administrative Law (Thomson Reuters, looseleaf, with J Donnelly), Public and Criminal Law (Federation Press, forthcoming 2025, with N Petrie) and Constitutional Protective Statutory Interpretation (Federation Press, forthcoming 2025).
Julian sits on the Bar's Indigenous Justice Committee, and has previously sat for three years on the Human Rights Committee. He read with Christopher Carr SC and his senior mentors were Felicity Gerry KC and Christopher Horan KC.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Julian undertook a PhD at Melbourne University and an LLM at Columbia University, where he graduated first in the class. Julian worked as the Criminal Appeals Manager at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency and as an Associate to Justice Nettle at the High Court of Australia.
