Profile

Kiran is an experienced advocate who accepts briefs in administrative/regulatory, commercial and civil law matters. He has a broad practice, with a focus on:

  • federal and state judicial and merits review proceedings, including migration, disability and environmental decisions;
  • private and public torts disputes;
  • contractual, insurance and public liability disputes; and
  • civil compensation and statutory insurance scheme (TAC and WorkCover) proceedings.

 

As a solicitor in private practice, Kiran primarily acted for Commonwealth and State Departments and Statutory Authorities in a wide range of matters, including: common law negligence proceedings, intentional torts and sensitive public law matters, judicial and merits review applications, competition and consumer law disputes, and class actions.

 

Most recently, Kiran was a Solicitor at the Australian Government Solicitor, where he primarily advised the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and the Department of Defence. These matters involved large-scale common law class actions against the Commonwealth.

 

Kiran was also an Associate at Maddocks, where he advised Federal and State government bodies on merits review proceedings, commercial and regulatory matters, and statutory interpretation and governance issues.

 

Prior to being admitted, Kiran was a Manager at KPMG for 6 years, where he led strategic reviews and investigations in risk and governance for the Victorian Public Sector, including the Department of Justice and Community Safety and the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission.

 

Kiran holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Bond University and is a Master of Laws candidate at the University of Melbourne.

 

Kiran is reading with Andrew Yuile. His senior mentor is Richard Knowles KC.
