Profile
Louis has a broad practice in criminal law and public law. In his criminal law practice, he accepts briefs to prosecute and defend.
Before coming to the Bar, Louis was a Principal Solicitor with the Office of Public Prosecutions’ Policy & Specialised Legal Division. He instructed in criminal trials, and provided advice in areas including administrative law, extraditions and coronial referrals. Louis specialised in the intersection of the criminal law and media law, including contempt and suppression orders.
Between 2021 and 2022, Louis managed the OPP’s serious offender team. He has extensive advocacy experience in Serious Offenders Act 2018 prosecutions.
Louis was previously a Senior Solicitor in the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office Police Advisory Branch. He acted in sensitive matters including public interest immunity claims, and advised on issues including police powers, administrative law and defamation.
Louis holds a Juris Doctor (First Class Honours) from the University of Melbourne and received prizes in Media Law and Advocacy. He has interned at Victoria Legal Aid and volunteered with the Human Rights Law Centre and Liberty Victoria.
He is a member of the Australian Academy of Forensic Sciences and was previously a legal affairs reporter for The Canberra Times.
Louis is reading with Ruth Champion. His senior mentor is Elizabeth Ruddle KC.
