Marcus Duckett has been working as a lawyer for over 22 years. He has been a Barrister for over 18 years. Specialising in Family Law, Marcus appears in the Family Law Courts and associated juriscdictions. Marcus regularly appears at Interim and Final Hearings in the Fedral Circuit and Family Court of Australia. Marcus handles matters involving both parenting and financial orders. Issues often dealt with are the fair division of assets, best interests of the children, appropriate spend time arrangements, relocation, family violence and de facto disputes.
Over the past 18 years of practising in Family Law, Marcus has represented many clients at all stages of proceedings including Mediations, Interim Applications and Final Hearings. In addition to court appearances Marcus is able to provide both written and oral advice and draft necessary court documents such as Affidavits and Outlines of Case.
Marcus has represented clients at hundreds of Mediations as part of family law proceedings. In mid 2020 he became a Nationally Accredited Mediator with AIFLAM (the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators).
Prior to coming to the Bar, Marcus worked for two years as an Associate to a County Court Judge. In Marcus' first years at the Bar he ran numerous criminal trials in the County Court and conviction/sentence Appeals in the Court of Appeal. However, his practice has now evolved to predominantly being appearances in the Family Law Courts. Marcus commenced working as a lawyer 22 years ago at Hall & Wilcox Lawyers, a Melbourne law firm then consisting of 60 solicitors.
When Marcus is not at work he enjoys spending time with his two children, spending time in the Macedon Ranges Shire and charcoal barbecue.
