Profile

Matthew has practised extensively in family law and child protection matters since his admission in 1995. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2024. 

Matthew appears as Counsel in parenting and property matters across all states and territories. His practice also includes experience as an Independent Children’s Lawyer and Separate Representative.

Matthew is committed to serving the profession and the administration of justice. He served as a Director of the Law Council of Australia and spent 10 years as a member of the Council of the Law Society of Tasmania, including two years as its President.

Matthew’s contributions to legal and administrative justice are significant, having been a long-time member of the (former) Tasmanian Mental Health Tribunal and Deputy President of the (former) Guardianship and Administration Board. He later served as a Senior Member of TasCAT and as a Commissioner of the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania.

Matthew accepts briefs in family law matters nation-wide, demonstrating a commitment to delivering expert advice and advocacy for his clients.
