Profile

Naomi has a broad commercial litigation practice.

She is briefed to appear with and without a leader in complex hearings and interlocutory matters in all jurisdictions. Some of the recent matters Naomi has appeared in include:

  • Contract disputes;
  • Partnership, director and shareholder disputes;
  • Trust disputes;
  • Acting for liquidators in proceedings involving breach of directors’ duties;
  • COVID lease disputes;
  • Applications for freezing orders;
  • Applications for summary judgment;
  • Winding up applications;
  • Defending application for executor’s commission;
  • Modification of restrictive covenants;
  • Security for costs applications; and
  • Costs disputes (in the Supreme Court and VCAT).

 

Naomi was briefed in the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry on behalf of a financial services provider and the Aveo class action.

 

She has been retained by the Legal Services Commissioner to facilitate negotiations and mediations, resolve complex costs related disputes between complainant and lawyers using various ADR methods, investigate disciplinary disputes and draft binding determinations.

 

Naomi is an Accredited Advocacy Instructor with the Australian Advocacy Institute and presents and coaches in the Readers’ Course. She is also a CDPP Counsel Panel Member.

 

Before joining the Bar, Naomi taught at Monash University Law School in Corporations Law, Contract Law and Legal Reasoning & Statutory Interpretation.

 

Naomi practised as a solicitor at Clayton Utz in the commercial litigation and corporate departments. She also has extensive experience in costs law having worked for Ariel Weingart for several years.

 

Naomi read with Dean Guidolin. Her senior mentors are Gerard Dalton QC and Jeremy Ruskin QC.
