Ran accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law, quasi-criminal law, administrative and public law.
Ran Zaydan holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and is a part of the 2026-27 VLA Criminal Trial Counsel Development program.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Ran practised as a solicitor advocate at Victoria Legal Aid and subsequently at Stary Norton Halphen, where she worked extensively across both summary and indictable streams, with carriage of State and Commonwealth matters.
Ran regularly appears across all levels of the Victorian court system in trials, pre-trial arguments, suppression order applications, committals, contested hearings, bail applications, pleas, and conviction and sentence appeals. Ran also has experience in specialist jurisdictions, including human rights and Crimes (Mental Impairment and Fitness to be Tried) hearings. She is frequently briefed to advise in complex cases, prepared written submissions, and appears as junior counsel in proceedings.
Ran commenced her legal career as an Associate to his Honour Judge Anthony Kelly at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, working across the family, migration, human rights and general law lists.
Ran read with Moya O’Brien, and her senior mentors are the Honourable Anthony Kelly KC and Jason Gullaci SC.
