Rose Cameron practises in public law, public international law and criminal law.
Before returning to the Bar, Rose was Principal Legal Adviser at the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, where she advised on a broad range of public law matters and played a leadership role in the provision of legal advice to the State in relation to Treaty with Victoria’s First Peoples. She currently lectures in public law at the University of Melbourne. Rose is currently acting as Tribunal Assistant/Secretary on international arbitration matters through ICSID and ACICA.
Rose previously practised at the Bar between 2015 and 2017, before taking up the opportunity to move to The Hague to work as Associate Legal Officer to Judge James Crawford at the International Court of Justice, and subsequently as a Legal Officer in the Appeals Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
Prior to joining the Bar, Rose worked in criminal law practice, including as a solicitor advocate at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. As counsel and solicitor advocate, Rose appeared frequently in criminal law matters in the Magistrates' and County Courts.
Rose holds a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge (First class honours, Jesus College) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University.
She read with Scott Johns QC (now his Honour Judge Johns of the County Court) and her senior mentor was Lesley Taylor QC (now The Hon. Justice Taylor of the Court of Appeal).
