Profile
Ruben practises principally in employment law and industrial relations, and in regulatory matters. He also has experience in discrimination and equal opportunity matters, human rights, administrative law and general commercial law.
Ruben accepts employment and industrial law briefs to act for both employers and employees, as well as trade unions and government. He has experience across all aspects of employment law including general protections, underpayment claims, dismissals, employment contracts, restraint of trade and protection of confidential information, bullying and sexual harassment, restructures and redundancies, conducting workplace investigations, enterprise bargaining and enterprise agreement disputes, and work health and safety.
In his regulatory practice, Ruben advises on and prosecutes regulatory matters, and is available for both state and federal agencies. Separately, he is available to advise and defend businesses subject of investigation or regulatory prosecution. Ruben also accepts briefs involving the review of government decisions, and in discrimination and equal opportunity matters, or those that engage human rights.
Before coming to the bar, Ruben practised in Arnold Bloch Leibler's Employment & Workplace Advisory practice group, where he advised on complex, business-critical and sensitive workplace matters and disputes. Most recently, he practised at the Wage Inspectorate Victoria, prosecuting criminal offences under a variety of industrial relations-related legislation.Ruben also has experience leading the People & Culture function of a national not-for-profit organisation and is acutely aware of the needs of in-house teams. He sits on the Board of the Australian Contemporary Opera Company.
Ruben is reading with Siobhan Kelly, and his senior mentor is Marc Felman KC.
