Tristan practices in regulatory and quasi-criminal law, employment and industrial relations law, inquests and tribunals.
Tristan specialises in regulatory prosecutions, with a particular focus on occupational health and safety, environment protection and other indictable regulatory crime, as well as employment law matters with a particular focus on statutory entitlement claims, discrimination, general protections, unfair dismissal and civil penalty proceedings.
Tristan acts in matters in an extensive range of subject areas, including workplace psychosocial hazards, complex major construction and other high-risk industry hazards, risks arising out of the use, storage, handling and transport of dangerous goods, and the intersection of workplace safety law and environment protection.
Additionally, Tristan has considerable experience in the application of workplace safety law to unconventional workplace settings, such as professional sporting codes, amateur motorsport, government and political bodies. Tristan also worked extensively on the development and implementation of Victoria’s workplace manslaughter laws.
Before joining the Bar, Tristan was a Lead Lawyer at WorkSafe Victoria appearing in occupational health and safety offences, dangerous goods offences and workers compensation fraud. Prior to his role at WorkSafe Victoria, Tristan was a lawyer at the federal workplace health and safety regulator (Comcare). Consequently, Tristan has significant experience and exposure to complex regulatory investigations and prosecutions.
