Peter is a King's Counsel practising in Victoria and other Australian jurisdictions in all criminal law, coronial inquests and professional disciplinary tribunals.
He has appeared extensively in criminal trials, pleas, appeals and bail applications in the Supreme Court, County Court and District Courts across Australia. He has appeared in appellate matters before the Court of Appeal in Victoria and Western Australia.
Peter is on the Victoria Legal Aid Preferred Trial Counsel List. He has been a leading counsel for its Trial Counsel Development Program since the inception of the Program.
Peter is a member of the Victorian Bar Council. He is the Chair of the Victorian Bar Counsel Committee. From 2013 to 2022 Peter was a member of the Victorian Bar Ethics Committee serving as Deputy Chair and Chair.
He has been ranked as a leading senior counsel by Doyle’s Guide.
Peter has a particular interest in forensic science and his expertise in its practical application in criminal proceedings, notably where DNA evidence is material, is well regarded.
Peter is a former President of the Medico Legal Society of Victoria and a Chapter Council member of the Australian Academy of Forensic Science. He is an active member of forensic science professional associations and regularly gives lectures on forensic science topics.
He has also undertaken cultural awareness training under the guidance of Kellawan Indigenous Consultants.
