Profile

Amara specialises in all areas of criminal law, sports law, regulatory proceedings, inquests and inquiries.

Amara is regularly briefed in complex indictable matters including homicide, serious drug offences and sexual offences. Her practice includes both trial and appellate work, and she works both as sole counsel and junior counsel.

Amara is on the Victoria Legal Aid Preferred Barrister List and holds an Indictable Crime Certificate (ICC).

In addition to criminal defence work, Amara acts as AFL Tribunal Counsel. Amara appears at Tribunal Hearings and Appeals for the AFL, VFL and AFLW.

Amara is frequently briefed to appear before the Victorian Racing Tribunal.

Amara appears as counsel for both prosecution and defence in regulatory matters, including matters regulated by the EPA and VBA.

Amara commenced her legal career working for his Honour Judge Troy in the District Court of Western Australia, before moving to Victoria and practicing as a solicitor advocate.

Amara read with Andrew Woods SC. Her senior mentors are Peter Morrissey SC and Ben Ihle QC.
