A Legal Lifecycle — On Your Feet at the Bar

A Legal Lifecycle is a four-part podcast series exploring the diverse, evolving careers of women in the legal profession. Through honest, reflective conversations, each episode traces a different chapter of a legal life — from private practice and career pivots to advocacy at the Bar and, ultimately, a seat on the bench. The experience of gender weaves through each story.

The result is a nuanced look at how identity, ambition, and systemic structures shape legal careers. This is a podcast about professional evolution but also about choice, resilience, and reimagining what a life in the law can look like.

Episode 3: On Your Feet at the Bar.

In this episode, the focus is on women who have transitioned into a career as barristers. It explores their experiences, the challenges they have encountered, and the rewarding moments that come with life at the Bar.

Aggy Kapitaniak, who, over the past 17 years, has built a thriving practice in criminal law (and quasi-criminal matters) and regulatory law across all jurisdictions. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Chair of the New Barristers’ Committee, and she’s passionate about mentoring and teaching new readers. When she's not at work, you'll find her enjoying time at the beach with her family.

Eliza Tiernan, who has been at the Bar for nearly ten years, focusing exclusively on family law. Her practice includes appellate work, high-conflict parenting matters, international relocations, Hague Convention applications, and acting for the Independent Children’s Lawyer, along with complex property division matters.

Dr Daye Gang, who practices in administrative, commercial, and serious criminal law. This year, Daye has also started a Graduate Diploma in Construction Law. She is best known for her expertise in human rights and public international law, particularly after receiving the International Bar Association’s Outstanding Young Lawyer Award in 2020.
