Think Resolution: Disputes in the neighbourhood – How VCAT’s ADR Division is Meeting the Challenge
In this Think Resolution episode, Foley's List barrister David Kim speaks with VCAT Senior Member Charlene Price about the critical role of alternative dispute resolution at the Tribunal. They explore the differences between mediation and compulsory conferences, the benefits of resolving disputes outside a hearing, and practical approaches for parties, lawyers and mediators navigating complex or ongoing relationships.
David Kim has a broad commercial litigation practice with extensive experience in both State and Federal jurisdictions. David is also an accredited advanced mediator (AMDRAS) and a Specialist Mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC). He has undergone mediation training in Australia, Singapore and the US.
He is a Fellow of CIArb (member of the East Asia and Australian Branches), ACICA (arbitration & mediation), the Resolution Institute (arbitration & mediation), ICC (arbitration), Council of Australian Tribunals, and the International Association of Korean Lawyers.
Senior Member Charlene Price was appointed as a Member of VCAT in 2012. Charlene has heard and determined proceedings across a wide range of areas during her time at VCAT, including residential tenancies, consumer disputes, guardianship, administration, powers of attorney, owners corporations, legal services and human rights matters.
Charlene is the Deputy Head of the Appropriate Dispute Resolution Division, which is a newly created division established for the purpose of embedding ADR across VCAT. She has a particular interest in Appropriate Dispute Resolution, and completed her national mediation accreditation in 2013.
