Daze in Court - Appeals, Addbacks & Shinohara v Shinohara

In this Daze in Court episode, Foley's List barristers Rohan Hoult, Eliza Tiernan, and Alex Metherell tackle the complexities of add-backs in family law matters, examining their impact on practitioners and the property pool. They also provide essential guidance on the rules of appeal and court etiquette to help legal professionals navigate the judicial system.

Rohan Hoult is a former Senior Judicial Registrar of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, who returned to the Bar in 2023. He has over 35 years’ experience practicing exclusively in family law. Rohan’s extensive practice has included significant trial and appellate work, complex child and property matters, and experience in Magellan cases. He is also an AIFLAM Nationally Accredited Mediator.

Eliza Tiernan is an experienced advocate known for delivering clarity and control in the most challenging family law disputes. With insight, care, and a high degree of emotional intelligence, she guides solicitors and clients through sophisticated parenting and property matters, particularly those involving intense parental conflict, financial complexity, or unusual legal issues. Alex Metherell specialises exclusively in family law and related jurisdictions, accepting briefs to appear at local and interstate registries. She undertakes regional and circuit work, mediations, and drafting tasks. With significant experience in high-risk parenting matters involving allegations of unacceptable risk, as well as complex property disputes related to spousal maintenance, third-party interests, equitable interests, child support, and injunctions, Alex has a firm understanding of the intricacies of family law.
