In this episode of Daze in Court, Foley’s List barrister Rohan Hoult is joined by Cath Devine, Damien Dao and Madeleine Lynch to discuss recent family law cases, child support, mentoring and the experience of starting life at the Bar.

Cath Devine shares practical insights into child support, including binding child support agreements, school fees, mortgage payments and non-periodic/non-agency payments. The episode also touches on new readers at the Bar, mentoring, community service and wellbeing in practice.



Rohan Hoult is a former Senior Judicial Registrar of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, who returned to the Bar in 2023. He has over 35 years’ experience practicing exclusively in family law. Rohan’s extensive practice has included significant trial and appellate work, complex child and property matters, and experience in Magellan cases. He is also an AIFLAM Nationally Accredited Mediator.

Cath Devine has extensive experience in all areas of Family Law, with a particular interest and expertise in Child Support advice and advocacy.  Cath has appeared as junior counsel and on appeal on numerous occasions.  Cath has a reputation as a fearless and forceful advocate for her clients, and also on behalf of children when she appears as Counsel for the Independent Children's Lawyer.

Damien Dao accepts briefs to appear in and advise on all matters relating to family law. He has extensive experience across matters in family law and associated jurisdictions including financial matters, spousal maintenance, parenting matters and drafting financial agreemeents and child agreements. 

Madeleine Lynch  has practised predominately in family law and family violence law since her admission in 2017. She has extensive experience appearing in family law matters at the Federal Circuit & Family Court of Australia and in family violence matters at the Magistrates' Court, including contested hearing and as a duty lawyer.
